Meet the Board The Women Business Owners Board of Directors, elected by its members, comprises a diverse group of women entrepreneurs and business experts. The Board works closely with various WBO Committees to develop and implement programs to further the mission and strategies of WBO. Please contact them with your ideas and suggestions.
Biographies
Michelle Hayden Bomberger is the founder of Small Business Legal Services PLLC, a law firm focused on helping small businesses start up and grow. She has extensive experience in business operations at both Fortune 500 companies and start ups alike, allowing her to offer business-focused legal counsel to her small business clients. Michelle also conducts seminars and teaches courses on legal and business planning for small business owners to educate entrepreneurs on the important facets of starting and running a business. She holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a JD and MBA from Northwestern University. She currently serves as the Chair of the Washington State Bar Association’s Law Office Management Assistance Program and is an active member of the King County Bar Association’s Solo and Small Firm Section.
Joy owns an agent partnership working with Coldwell Banker Bain. She provides precise real estate representation with an emphasis on consumer advocacy, the kind of care and due diligence that she would want to be given as a client. Before her real estate career, Joy was a business manager and a volunteer-lobbyist for various non-profit organizations. She has been on the WBO Board since May of 2006 as Secretary.
Kathy Clayton has been transforming women’s lives for over nine years, teaching women to think differently about their businesses and their lives. Drawing on her broad education (BA in American History with minors in Economics and Philosophy from Beloit College (WI) and 14 years in the personal growth arena), she brings a unique perspective to creating real and lasting change in the lives and businesses of her clients. Kathy has been an active member of WBO since 2002 and looks forward to serving WBO as chair of the Nellie Cashman committee. Joining the Aflac sales team in 2004, Becky has since managed to help over 140 employers enhance their employee benefit packages without increasing costs. Becky continues to build her business on the foundation of service, integrity, and networking ability. Becky Cotter was recently awarded Aflac’s highest level of accommodation, President’s Club, ranking amongst the top 50 producers in the US. She lives near Redmond with her sexy husband Wes and two beautiful bullmastiff children. Becky has been an active member of the Program Committee for the past year and was responsible for heading up the recent CEO Roundtable. She has been an Ambassador and has also worked with the Nellie Awards event.
Chris is an independent Certified Financial Planner, a Certified Senior Advisor and a Registered Investment Advisor. Her mission for the past 23 years has been to help people understand and control their investments and meet their long range goals. Currently she teaches at North Seattle Community College Continuing Education program about the Financial Issues of Divorce. Her goal is to educate and encourage women to take risks and to rise to a higher level of accomplishment as business owners.
Karen Goodgame is a Certified Mortgage Planner with Goodgame Lending Solutions, a Branch of Abacus Mortgage, Inc. Karen states that her core purpose is to make a difference in people’s lives by acting as an advocate to offer creative solutions to her clients’ lending needs and enabling them to achieve their goals. “I absolutely love what I do and I look forward to helping women business owners achieve success.” She is entering her second year on the Board of Directors as Membership Co-Chair. “Women Business Owners offers a supportive community for women to meet, learn, and share. I’m looking forward to a fabulous 2007!” . Robin S. Gruber Robin is a financial advisor and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst. She helps her clients to understand their financial futures and create solutions to financial issues, allowing them to realize their dreams and the lifestyles they want to enjoy. She has been in the financial industry since 1995 and has partnered her own business since 2000. She believes that to welcome new members on a personal level and a business level makes the difference between a good organization, and a fantastic one. She believes her role chairing the membership committee is a major part for accomplishing just that. Rosemary Heckman With over 20 years of sales, marketing and advertising experience, Rosemary directs the strategic marketing, planning, sales, client relations and project management at Turk’s Head. She has extensive senior management and hands-on experience in strategic planning, training, event planning, sales promotion and operations.
Debbie Leviton has 20 years experience assisting and educating clients to attain their personal and financial goals. Debbie combines confident planning skills with a style that is inspirational, upbeat, and supportive. She has made several real estate investments and in addition has proven her entrepreneurial skills as the founder of Creative Solutions, a successful coaching and training business.
Jule Meyer brings twenty-five years of fundraising and non-profit management experience to her consulting services. Her special expertise has been to increase local awareness of the good works of national and international organizations through lobbying, public relations and development of new donors. Currently her firm assists philanthropists to initiate and to manage their small family foundations. She also coaches organizations on fundraising, mergers, and developing planned giving programs.
Kelly R. Nolan is a Financial Advisor, providing clients with compassionate guidance and distinctive customer service to complement the financial planning team at FS Financial Strategies, LLC. Kelly is dedicated to educating clients, both individuals and couples, on investing, protecting their investments and planning for their future whether they are far from retirement, quickly approaching it, or already retired. Kelly also works with businesses of any size, creating, implementing, and monitoring their retirement plans, including on-going education for employees. She is a registered representative, a Registered Advisor Salesperson, and holds a Washington State Insurance License. Kelly enjoys spending time with her family, friends and two orange tabbies. She played team sports in school and would love to have more time to pursue her love of sports, art and travel.
Margaret W. Purvine is a Principal and Co-Owner of Next Step Solutions, Inc., a business consulting practice focused on helping small business CEO/Owners build the operational foundations that will allow their businesses to grow and make more money. Prior to owning her own company, Margaret spent nearly two decades with IBM, working at jobs ranging from Systems Engineer, Marketing Instructor and Account Manager to Systems Engineering Manager. There, she developed the organizational, project, and management skills necessary to get large computer systems installed and implemented properly. Today, her professional life is focused on consulting, speaking, and writing. Publishing articles regularly in the Puget Sound Business Journal, she also writes all the copy for Next Step’s web site as well as the company blog. Margaret has been a member of WBO for three years, has been active on committees, and welcomes the opportunity to help lead the organization forward in its mission to support women in business.
Susan is a graphic arts and advertising professional with over twenty years of experience doing everything from print production management to commercial lithography scheduling and sales to signage design. She has recently returned to her roots of juggling projects and facilitating progress. She describes her position with Turk’s Head Productions as “working with a very talented group of designers and marketers who needed someone to catch and wrangle the details as they fly through a very busy office.” Susan has been an active member of WBO for several years and continues to be inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit and courage of her fellow members.
